This guitar malarkey… makes you wonder! Before Christmas I went into Wunjo Guitars on Denmark Street and started talking to the guy about vintage 335s - well if your budget is about £15k I've got beauty here! Bet you have mate!
Haha! Must have been for that price!
I think there comes a point where you have to ask yourself whether you want a guitar to play or to collect. There are some very nice old guitars out there but there's no way on this Earth that a £15,000 guitar is going to be 15x 'better' than one costing £1,000. I feel the same way about some of these totally authentic signature models. You have to wonder how much you're paying for the guitar and how much you're paying for some guy to scratch up the back just like Sid's one (or whoever). Oh, and how much you're paying to the guitarist whose name is on it, of course.

Hey Jonny, that AES looks like a beautiful guitar. Seems it's a discontinued model - can't see a used one anywhere on the internet! Must be good!
They are lovely. Do anything all the way to metal. Seymour duncan JB pickup at the bridge. Matched Yammy Alnico PUP at the neck.
Good guess but it wasn't! It was a pro player but I honestly can't remember his name. Given that I've branded him 'somewhat heavy handed', that might be just as well. As for simple signal paths, there's clip of Danny Gatton on YouTube playing a blues on his Tele: even his wah is just the tone control! Otherwise, it's just one man with his guitar and his amp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBp6lPESXbI
I know what you mean about keeping it simple with a Les Paul but I've just posted a link to a video to a man who played a Strat without a pedal on the floor. Rory Gallagher at his best, I think http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_3MkmsZ6zk&feature=related
